Past Introductory Message from the Chair

Welcome

I am pleased to invite you to peruse this, EIHOF's first website, and hope not only that you will enjoy its content but also that you will share in its pride. However, I must first express tribute to our original president, Larry Steckler, EHF who for so many years maintained this organization by his steadfast work and the use of his personal finances.

The history of the Hall of Fame is a proud one. Among those inducted are the finest of the fine, each in his particular category.

Watch for future items of interest.

Dorothy A. Cicchetti, EHF
President and Chairman of the Board

Don Winchel CET/EHF Passed Away At His Home
June 18, 2004

It is with heavy sadness we received the news of the passing of Don Winchel CET/EHF. Although rather short in statue he was one giant worker for all of our Associations. We are better associations because of the contributions of this humble man.

He served his country with his first career retiring from the United States Air force with over 20 years of active service. Then he chose to serve our Consumer Electronics Industry in many capacities compelling his induction into this Hall of Fame in 1996. He served as ISCET’s President from 1987 to 1989, a troublesome time with collapse of the NESDA self funded insurance fund. He led the efforts that brought ISCET’s aid to rescue NESDA from this financial disaster. Afterwards he served continually as a member of the ISCET Board and served as chairman of major ISCET committees. He also managed and administered the ISCET Serviceability program. Subsequently he found time to manage and administer the ISCET FCC COLA programs.

This admirer first met Don Winchel CET/EHF when he called upon me to serve upon an ISCET Serviceability inspection team. Then had the good fortune to become a friend with he and his wife Margaret. We have never previously known a time when he was not working for our associations in some capacity or another. Even after suffering a severe stroke it could not stop this service. It only slowed him down while he continued to serve as he rehabilitated himself continually promoting all our associations at every opportunity. In 2003 at NPSC he struggled getting to meetings with a walker, or in his wheelchair, but he always made them and actively participated. Even then he maintained such a positive outlook. It is easy to recall conversations with him where he often used one of his favorite replies that still echo within our ears "You betcha."

On Saturday morning, July 31, 2004 at NPSC’s 2004 ISCET breakfast sponsored by Hitachi, the ISCET Board presented its rare special achievement award to this very special person. An award seldom presented because it is not for any single deed nor act but a lifetime of dedication and achievement for service rendered to our industry. John Eubanks presented the award and commented; " Lacking words to appropriately express such loss we along with all his family, pondering how to continue without him and questioning if can we make it without him can clearly hear his reply, "You betcha." I don't know where nor how we find such outstanding people. In fact I don’t think we find them at all, rather they are sent seeking us just to deliver all the blessings they so willingly bestow. Regardless he is and will be missed greatly by each of us. May God grant him peace he has earned with comfort to all his family."

Ernie Curtis accepted the award with our grateful appreciation for Don Winchel CET/EHF and his family. The National Electronic Industry Hall Of Fame acknowledges these accomplishments while proudly preserving his memory.
